Geocaching gets much easier with experience. Your "spider sense" will develop over time.
learn how to home in on known coords before seeking unknown coords. Mark some location (your house, whatever) and see how your GPSr reacts. Navigating to a known place helps you understand how to navigate to an unknown place.
Once you get within 50' or so, put the gps in your pocket and start looking. Rookie mistake: trying to follow the GPSr all the way to the cache.
ALWAYS be ready to cache: keep your gps with you, loaded with waypoints, and carry a writing instrument.
